Once in awhile a CD comes across my hands that really strikes me. It's something that is pretty much outside of my main listening styles of music but never-the-less I can't help but enjoy it. This time around it's Schmucks For You's debut release on Pluto Records with the extremely long title of I Can't Talk to the Walls Because They're Yelling At Me.

This CD begins as NecRoSarX said with a sample piece of the movie 1984 and really sets the tone for this politically motivated punk/hardcore album and then just rips into one of the best songs on the CD, All I Have. With 13 tracks all told I'd say I really enjoy about half of them and the others I usually hit the track up button on. The reason is simply a matter of whether the song is more punk influenced or more hardcore influenced. As you know I really don't care for much punk but when Schmucks For You incorporate the hardcore elements into their sound it's simply aggressive and wonderful.

The oddly named 'Kittyhead Doorstop' (I swear I'll never understand punks) is another great song that stands out for me as it really lets us know the heart these guys have for God. The entire lyrics to the song are:

Thank you provider, praise you provider.
When I don't hold on to what is not mine.
You give me more than I could ever hope for.
With the cup I give you, you give it back to me.
All it takes is a little faith.
    Yes, Lord I believe.
Thank you provider, praise you provider.
When I don't hold on to what is not mine.

So as I stated above I REALLY love about half of this album and if you are at all interested in old school punk with a bit of the gutter edge to it chances are you are going to love the other half as well. Definitely a CD worth looking into.

    7/10

Dead Zine 2003Reviewed by NecRoSarXAs hardcore punk hybrids go, I must say I like this CD. Any band that starts off their release with a clip from the movie based on one of my favorite books, 1984, is cool enough for a listen. This is just heavy hardcore punk, comparisons to Earth Crisis have been made about this disc. There are some cool riffs, along with both screaming vocals and harmonizing vocals, making this more of a…
