Apologetix doesn't let up on Keep the Change. Another year, another 19 "biblical parodies" of relatively current and classic rock, pop, rap, disco, etc. Props to singer/lyricist J. Jackson, for continually coming up with scriptural facsimiles of so many radio faves that actually rhyme well. The trouble in the past with Apologetix is that their parodies weren't always gut-busting guffaw-inducers. Keep The Change largely dispells that misgiving. The band's tricks this time are to mine biblical episodes already rich in humor, and going so far over the top that they have to be admired for sheer chutzpa. Examples of the former are their takes on the tale of Noah's Ark, thanks to templates provided by Blink 182 and Nine Stories. Christmas provides funny fodder, too, via takes on Three Doors Down and Shaggy (whose Americanized reggae toasting they get down admirably). Attempting Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," using Chipmunky vocals to simulate Freddie Mercury's falsetto, is so beyond the pale as to be effectively silly. Production remains closer to a bar band demo than more authentically aping the sonics of the acts they spoof. An outside hand behind the board would do Apologetix well. But beyond that, if spoofs are your thing, Keep The Change is a keeper.

In most cases, however, the music's quality is lacking. The band's concept is…
