With the popularity of alterno-metal bands like Nirvana and Sound Garden, a band like Asight Unseen has a real chance for widespread popularity...if given that chance by radio and MTV. This is Christian music that's actually relevant!!! Can you believe it? With the angst-ridden vocals, superb wah-wah guitars, flailing drums and beefy low end, Asight Unseen simply rips. "Psychic Babylon" is a hot rod rocker reminiscent of late Undercover. Hot stuff with poignant lyrics. The title track pegs the INXS sound with its jangly guitar tone and infectious groove. If that ain't a cool enough influence to come screaming out, you can catch glimpses of The Cult, Living Colour and Guns 'N' Roses in later tunes--but pulled off with an energy and flair that's all Asight Unseen (This music does not sound like a band that can't decide who they are, these are just elements of influences that creep into their original tunes). I have to tell you, this album is the most exciting thing to come my way this time (save for, perhaps, the new King's X). This is modern music at its best--heavy, hard and fresh. Oftentimes the lyrics of fresh, new alternative-laced music is broody, dark and ambiguous, but that's not the case with these guys. An electrified version of the Lord's Prayer is just one example of meaningful and creative ways to include overt references to God. It shouldn't really matter how many times an artist says "God" or "Jesus" on an album, but for those that it does matter to: every song on here mentions the Lord. The highlight of the album, both musically and lyrically, has to be "Electric Angel Blues", which concludes with the fore-mentioned impassioned adaptation of the Lord's prayer. I can't tell you how stoked I am to come across a band this creative and energetic at such a relevant time. Give this album a shot and, if it doesn't trip your wires, give it to a Nirvana fan and watch it trip theirs.
