Blood Red is the product of two other bands, Silent Majority and Inside. They are from Long Island, NY and this is their first release with Initial Records.
Blood Red is trying something new. Their sound is a corral of different bits and pieces scraped from varying genres. With a background in hardcore, the participants build up each song with a variety of this and that. Many tracks feature acoustic guitar right alongside electric and several songs have piano (piano, not keyboards) as their initial building block. Generally, the music is low-key and the mood is downcast. Lyrically they touch on tough to deal with issues such as spousal abuse. Special note must be made of the artwork, which does a lot to represent the band.
While Blood Red shows a lot of potential and this debut features some well written songs, it's clear they are in the beginning stages of their career. In some of the songs, the musicians sound like they are playing apart from each other and it's tough to get past. No doubt, future releases will see this cleared up. I really think they have what it takes, and I'm looking forward to hearing their work in the future.
