Caligula play a noticeably jazz influenced style of hardcore that lends its hand to the likes of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge in terms of mathematic time changes and Jacob Bannon influenced vocals. Constant Reminder of You opens the disc and leads the way showing this complex style with quick and precise time changes and extremely tight playing. The track takes a breather with a short and reflective instrumental before breaking into This Boring War which sounds like a B-Side off of You Fail Me. Carrying on in the Converge vein, the bridge in A Lover's Toast sounds like an almost exact replica of the progression that ties together Concubine and Fault and Fracture off of Jane Doe. All of these comparisons to Converge aren't a bad thing by any means. Caligula has the musical chops to actually pull off the style without sounding like they're hacking anything. You should be jealous when four guys make it look this easy on their first time out.
