After spending some time with Reunion Records, Carolyn Arends dropped off the radars for most Christian music fans. During this time she continued to record but did so independently. Under the Gaze is Arends' newest album and it is one that fans of hers from her time at Reunion will still enjoy. Overall, the project has a relaxing sound to it that is helped by the production that lets her voice shine instead of trying to focus on the current trends in music. This results in an acoustic, and sometimes piano-driven, feel to many of the songs. Most of the songs on this CD are fairly slow, which is more obvious with the acoustic sound, but some of the songs are fairly upbeat.
If you want a fast paced CD, then this is not the project for you. If you want a nice sound that is at times acoustic and at other times a light piano driven, then give this CD a spin.
