Reunion Records has a new pop artist for the CCM market. Welcome Clay Crosse, a singer in the tradition of Michael Bolton, Russ Taff, and Michael English. Possessing a strong, soulful voice, Crosse fits in the Reunion mold of artists who could make an impression in the mainstream arena, as well as in the contemporary Christian one.
Producers Peter Bunetta and Rick Chudacoff (who has also produced albums for Kenny G and Michael Bolton) have laid down smooth pop tracks for Crosse's warm voice to roll on.
The best cut, in my opinion, is "If That's What It Takes." It's an up-beat song, with a memorable hook. Another good listen is "One Heart," a duet with fellow Reunion artist Kathy Troccoli. Their voices complement each other well, as both lean towards the soulful side.
The album also has its share of strong ballads that are sure to see quite a bit of airplay on AC and CHR formats. Crosse will likely be a candidate for Best New Artist at the Dove Awards next year.
