You know what the MTV channels do to bands. They abuse the privilege of playing a video. Nine out of ten songs that they play on these channels gain popularity quickly and are overplayed to no extent. Most of the music is not even worth listening to! Which I'm sure can get on anyone's nerves. But then again, there are exceptions. Take Coldplay's "Yellow" for example.
Hailing in from good old Great Britain, Coldplay provides a breath of fresh air in every category of music. The whole album provides a look into everything from guitar driven pop-rock, to mellow piano songs to semi-acoustic ballads. Not only are they talented in the aspect of distinguishing one song from the next, but I also enjoy the lyrics. They can be very poetic in parts, and a major plus is that the album is clean of any foul language or phrases.
Although it sometimes dips down into slower, depressed sounding music, it's an all around great album.
Top Picks: "Yellow," "Shiver," "Trouble," and "Don't Panic"
Pros: Coldplay's Parachutes, I believe, is a very unique album and has nice variety on it. It also gives me a sliver of hope for future MTV videoplay.
Cons: If you don't like slower, more mellow music, this album probably isn't for you. The whole album isn't like this but it can be in parts.
The verdict: I really enjoy this album and I'm sure most fans of mellow-er rock with a little bit of pop thrown in will enjoy it as well. And I know I will be greatly anticipating any future Coldplay projects.
