So, can a death metal and grindcore fan not own a copy of Dissection and still be considered a serious fan? The answer is "no," by the way.

I still find myself continually praising GOD for this release. This massively ranks up there with Scrolls of the Megilloth and Chords of the Grave in sheer brutality. The opener, "Beaten Beyond", hits with massive blast-beats and grinding guitars, then eases into a cold groove with utter tightness. Everything is so down tuned I'm surprised my speakers are still holding up. "Eternal Life" and "Deepest Affliction", both of my personal favorites, are just...wow. The entire CD is a good solid listen, purely brutal death/grindcore, with a couple of creative twists that add to the mix- there's a cover of the classic Stryper song "Loud N' Clear" that features a violin solo (!), that unknown preacher guy from their previous CD makes another appearance here, and for those who're a bit patient, or forget to shut off the CD after the last song, there's a rather, um, interesting hidden track.

In the liner notes, it states "All lyrics by Crimson Thorn (with heavy inspiration and content from the Bible)." This is true. In fact, Dissection is one of those rare CDs where the strength of the message is melded with some quality artistry. I know that when I lend this out to my nonChristian death metal friends, they won't complain that the music's weak. And, I find myself edified with every listen as well, especially on "Psallo" (basically a death metal praise-and-worship tune), "All Authority", "My Salvation", and "I Ask". Again, wow.

Buy this one, o ye fans of Deicide, Napalm Death and Ludichrist. . .

Dead Zine 1997Reviewed by FetusThis CD is a must. I am a very hard critic, but it just happens to be my first review is on a truly mastered piece of work. I have few CD's that I give this rating to. I have distinguished at least 5 different singing styles and they MASTER both the low bone-crushing sludge style singing as well as the high pitched "angry, wounded, and very uncomfortable animal" style.Best part is they overdub the…
