Pray for the Dead
Reviewed by Doug Van Pelt
Here's a 7" piece of vinyl with two songs on it, "Pray for the Dead" and "Post Nuclear Dream," distributed by A.R.T. "Pray..." features a slow, plodding rhythm section over a sometimes half-timing drum section played with the bass pedals that sounds really cool. The vocals are delivered a la thrash/grind, but extremely decipherable. An interesting combo by a competent band. Melodically, the song doesn't score millions of points, but the feel is very heavy and cool.
The B-side tune, "Post Nuclear Dream," is a bit faster and finds the vocalist chompin' on his words a little more. The sonics on these two songs are, considering the quality of many independent projects of this genre, superb -- even though they every arm chair producer would change things about a certain sound on it.
