I always thought they were called The Daniel Band!? Anyway, this collection captures most of the essence that made this band good during its time: Commercial melody lines with teenage anthem quality power chords. Easy to sing along with and also headbanging (albeit slow) material. The standout of standout cuts here are probably the bold and to-the-point "Reality" ("Without the blood of Jesus/ There ain't no hope for us at all!"), the bombastic "Don't Give Up" and maybe the anthemic title track to "RISE UP." Unfortunately, the apparent lack of new direction for the band made their last album, "RUNNING OUT OF TIME," a prophetic title. Even though the songs were pretty good, they really offered nothing new. Bands that don't deviate from a trademark sound can be good, especially for their fans, but you can't blame some of us for getting bored. If Pulse Records really wanted to release a "Best of Daniel Band" album, they simply could've re-released the debut record--"ON ROCK"--and called it a best of. It was, in this hedgehog's opinion, their best, most consistent effort. Maybe I'm wrong, though, 'cause this collection matched up to their debut album and really has more to offer. It's just the total non-appearance of any "ON ROCK" material is disappointing.
