This is a 5 song EP produced by Nick Barber (Poor Old Lu, Rose Blossom Punch) and for an indie debut, it's one of the best I've ever heard. The style here is pure emo, with Aaron Wiederspahn's vocals strong and passionate throughout. The five songs on here are "Misplaced Feelings of a Past Day", "Wood And Dirt", "Ichabod", "A Boy And His Kite", and "A Place Called Slumber". My favorite is probably either "Wood And Dirt" or "A Boy And His Kite". Both of these songs showcase the strong vocals, start and stop guitars, smooth bass work, and tight drumming that make up Dear Ephesus. I can tell there's lots of Sunny Day Real Estate influences, but I also get a little sense of Pearl Jam as well.
This band just got signed to Bulletproof Records, so be on the lookout for their full-length CD and cassette in September. If you enjoy SDRE, or any emo-alternative, then you'll enjoy Dear Ephesus.
