Believe it or not the Midwestern U.S. (Texas doesn't count!) actually has produced a deathmetal band. I guess the cover art (a young girl with her throat slashed and blood splattered face) kinda tell you it's deathmetal. Deathlist states this cover was done in order to reach the secular audience and that the girl represents a martyr. I'm not sure if I agree with this style of outreach, but I can say the lyrics scream Christ way. Speaking of screams, I am cut short on appreciation in the vocal realm. The vox are mid-death reminiscent of those from early MASTER and NAPALM DEATH. When I say NAPALM DEATH, I don't mean sound, it's more the ND vocal delivery style where the lyrics are more so blurted abruptly then your customary growlish flow. I found the vocals to lack in brutality and range. Speaking of MASTER, I noticed the double bass to be the exact style, overly rapid joined with the "clicky" typewriter/drum programming annoyance. Yes the percussion dept. is talented, but the production makes it sound 99% drum machine. The thrash/groove segments are the highlight of the LP, but run too short and the majority have been done by SEPULTURA. I'd recommend this LP to those who are new to the death scene, but veteran death-heads (especially those on a quest for intense mayhem) may exit the ride before coming to a full and complete stop.

It understandably will be refused in some retail outlets, as an actual photo of a decapitated female graces (ug!) the cover. It's too bad, because the music…Similar sounding releases
