Part 1 of The Cataclysm Singles. That is CD 1 of a 3 part series that is described as "Dark Techno/ Experimental Dance & Ambient Music". This CD is less on the industrial side of things for my tastes, in all honesty. What I mean is this is not a CD that I sit down and listen to, just to listen to the music. It's great mood music most of the time creating a very dark, and gloomy atmosphere, which is the goal of most of these tracks. I've found I really like listening to it a lot when I'm on the web as sort of background music.
There are a few stand out tracks on this CD that should be mentioned. Christian industrial front runners Blackhouse make another visit, here and you can never go wrong, and their track Reason To Live comes from their full length album Shades of Black, and will give you a good idea of what to expect from some of that album.
Torn Skin is the real highlight of this CD for me, and I can not wait for them to release a full length CD. This track, entitled Shoulders of Geniuses, is some of the best Christian industrial stuff I've heard in a long time. This song really reminds me of KMFDM and yes I'm going to say it Angst is the album I'd have put this song on too. Really nice female vocals thrown in there along with male vocals and very aggressive guitar work over well programmed synths.
Another stand out is the Fatal Blast Whip song Re-Creation. Dark dark gothic industrial style music, with lots of noise thrown in just to mess with your head. This is a track that defies description, but draws you back.
Most of the rest of the CD is made up of ambient or experimental noise tracks that as I said above, make for good web surfing music.
Again those looking to see what the Christian sub-culture is up to this is an excellent comp. CD that will shed some light on the dark side of the music world
6.5/10

HM Magazine #76Reviewed by Doug Van PeltRemember back in the 80's, when some well-meaning person would label a band like Petra "metal?!" To the purist, the same can be said when someone labels Nine Inch Nails or Circle of Dust "industrial." The guitar-based hybrid music of NIN and Klank certainly borrow from industrial, but the ambient noise art that translates smoother to various movie soundtrack settings are closer to the mark. That…
The Phantom Tollbooth 1998Reviewed by Tony LaFianzaBlacklight Records, it seems, has signed some impressive bands and names in the industrial, techno underground scene and put out a fine compilation CD. Machines in the Garden is Part 1 of "The Cataclysm Singles," an ongoing series of CD compilations that points to current events as proof that these are the last days of mankind. Although it would be unfair to call this an industrial compilation…Similar sounding releases
