Don't make the mistake I made when I first saw the name of this band; Chicago based band, Divide By Zero (DBZ), is NOT the P.O.D. wannabe band, Divided By Zero.
The punk-influenced rock DBZ plays is not the same generic sound that is quickly becoming a major trend. The main difference is that their vocals are more intensely punk (think Josh Kemble of Dogwood, except always in tune), while their music is less intense and heavily bass-driven, giving DBZ their own distinct sound.
Although there are melodies on the album, there aren't any that really stick out all that much. Ultimately this is the biggest downfall of Answer to No One. However, DBZ has a lot of rising action which is done through use of good transitions between the breaks and driving riffs. Yet, even this isn't even good enough to make the album that much better. The band certainly has talent and a great overall sound, but leaves a little to be desired in terms of song writing.
DBZ's press release claims they are a great live band with a lot of energy. While Answer to No One has energy, its lack of melody and tendency for tracks to blur together show that the band has yet to transfer their live stage presence to the studio. There's lots of potential here, but for now, I guess just check them out live.
