Waxmuseum: The Mix Tape

"Can you tell me what a mix tape is?" asks the man on the street at the beginning of Waxmuseum - and for the hour-or-so that follows, DJ Maj demonstrates his answer, collaborating with some of Christian music's best hip-hop and urban artists, including Out of Eden, John Reuben, Grits and L.A. Symphony. Each track presents DJ Maj's clever way with a beat and his solid turntable skills, while the various artists bring diversity to hip-hop.
DJ Maj best demonstrates his tight sampling skills during the highlight of Waxmuseum, "Bring Back Arsenio," performed by L.A. Symphony. The comical track, about former late night talk show host Arsenio Hall, drops some great verses and bangin' drum beats.
But then, there's a sense of enjoyment and energy all throughout Waxmuseum. The ever-flowing beats and lyrics keep your head nodding and your body moving, and the segues are so smooth that it takes a few seconds before you realize the track has changed. Along with the energy comes a real sense of unity among the artists, evident in their sporadic shout-outs. The quality and innovation of the music, lyrics and message of their collaboration make Waxmuseum a powerful statement of the love of Christ.
