Last year, Tooth and Nail Records all of a sudden signed a band from Seattle named Emery. At the "weak end" of 2003 and the beginning of 2004, lots of people started hearing about the band. Flipping between a consistent pattern of vocals from melodic emo (Further Seems Forever) to more upbeat vocals (Anberlin) to background screaming (The Used) then twisting it around in different ways yet always in some certain pattern, they play a distorted, lush, and upbeat sound that sometimes gets cranked up a notch.
Emery is relevant to the current music trends out there; emotive, and a mall-like version of melodic screamcore. Not really in any sense innovative, they do play their music quite well and the transitions from track to track are quick and solid. Playing well, nice transitions, and a good enough feel are very important to a good emocore sound. Without those, the music gets very ugly but fortunately, Emery is an emocore band that is melodic in its approach. Check them out if you like melodic emo core that cranks it up a notch at times.

For their part, Emery sounds like they are aiming for an emo/indie flair and they do throw in a few guitar harmonics and the occasional screamed vocals.
