When I first started to expand my horizons from punk and hardcore, I got deep into the early 90's emo sound. I got into bands like Texas is the Reason, Sense Field, Mineral, Native Nod, Quicksand, Ordination of Aaron and a whole slew of others. As that scene died down the sounds changed and so did the bands. No one touched that form of music anymore. I thought it was dead and I would just have to rely on my old seven inches and LP's from now on...until now. Kill Verona (AKA Little League) comes out of the fighting city of Philadelphia and they bring with them the sounds of the past that shaped my love of music when I was 14-16.
Trauma is their five song EP off of New Jersey's Livewire records. Livewire is pretty much a hardcore label but Kill Verona is one of the emo (I hate using that term because everyone under the age of 18 gets visions of Saves the Day and Thursday) that hardcore kids can truly get into. It was the same for Texas is the Reason and a lot of the Revelation Records stuff from the early 90's. I find more hardcore kids that were truly into those bands than I do with those crazy "emo" kids that are out there today...man...it's a shame. I digress. Kill Verona has a great sound that will bring you back to the years when grunge was taking over and pop punk was being molded into a mainstream laxative. I love this sound. I would say that the flaw is (again with this) that it is only an EP but their LP comes out in fall 2004. This is a great album and should be owned by you.
