I reviewed a re-issed EP back in September '04 by a band I had never heard of before, Funeral Diner. I only took it on because they were on one of my favorite labels, Alone Records. I was amazed by this band. I went out of my way to find their past releases and out of print material. I then jumped at the chance to review their newest album, "The Underdark". "The Underdark" is Funeral Diner's first real release in over three years and they are in no way rusty from all the off time. I can't paint the words of how amazing this album is. It's of the screamo/emo genre. Their sound ranges from Godspeed You Black Emperor! to Indian Summer and Rites Of Spring to Hot Cross. It's dark and beautiful and just powerful. It's by far THE BEST album I have heard this year. The production quailty isn't the best but it is perfect for this bands sound. It gives it a raw feeling that is sometimes lost in the studio. "The Underdark" is not a stop and go walkthrough, it's a journey that will take you around the whole mind field of dark feelings and buried emotions.
