Hot Rod Circuit's "Sorry About Tomorrow" is what you expect from Vagrant Records. Although some people seem to think that they're pop punk, they reek of "emo."
Vocally, Hot Rod Circuit's melodies could be compared to The Juliana Theory mixed with the nasal angst of Dashboard Confessional. In general, their music is reminiscent of Jimmy Eat World, but mostly they sound like the old Get Up Kids, just not as good.
"Sorry About Tomorrow" begins with "The Pharmacist," which is by far the best song on the record. Then, a musical drought sets in until track five "Now or Never." Next is "Cool for One Night," which is followed by two wishy-washy Jimmy Eat World type songs. Then, songs nine and ten, "Consumed by Laziness" and "Get What You Get," wrap up the album nicely before an average final track.
The bottom line is that Hot Rod Circuit is just another mediocre trendy band in the "emo" scene that is slowly running out of gas. "Sorry About Tomorrow" is by no means a terrible album, but it looks very inadequate when compared to the likes of Jimmy Eat World and the other "emo giants" who play this type of emotion rock 'n' roll.
