Their popularity may have waned a bit since Bleed American was all the rage, but Jimmy Eat World is still putting out quality music. Their latest full length Futures was another in a long string of strong records, and this little gem of an EP doesn't disappoint, either.
The first three tracks represent an excellent mixture of JEW's somewhat darker current sound with the more gentle air of 1999's Clarity. The songs are at once sparse and full, combining the standard guitar/bass/drums rock band arrangement with samples and loops.
The fourth track is a cover of Heatmiser's "Half Right." (Heatmiser was home to indie god Elliott Smith before his departure to a solo career.) JEW lead singer Jim Adkins has, apparently, quite the infatuation with the band, having dropped their name in at least one JEW song and now covering a hidden track from one of their albums.
The last track is the requisite remix, because it seems like no major label EP or single can be released without at least one extraneous remix. It's enjoyable but ultimately unnecessary.
Stay on My Side Tonight is an excellent release, but has only a few new tracks to offer. Pick it up if you're a fan.
