There have been a tremendous number of new artists to enter the Christian music scene in the past year or so. Many of these artists carry with them an incredible talent and ability to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ. One of these new artists is Joseph Mills, as evidenced by his debut, Between The Lines.

At first listen, I couldn't help but think that I had heard that voice somewhere before. After listening to the first few songs, I realized that Joseph Mills sounds a bit like Michael W. Smith. But there is more to Joseph Mills than his voice. It is his lyrics that grabbed me.

With the production and writing help of his label-mate Phillip Sandifer, Mills offers an awesome selection of contemporary Christian songs that speak on faith, the grace of God, and freedom. He even has a song that tackles the controversial subject of abortion called "Dear Jessica." This is a powerful song because it is very open and honest about this subject:

The Lord did not create a child to die But when its too late will you sit and be too selfish to cry

It is songs like this that reveal the heart of Joseph Mills' music.

The highlight of the album is the song, "If You Could See What I See." It is the age old question of, "What is the meaning of life?" The song explains it this way:

If you could see what I see There would be no question in your mind And you would know not to worry anymore If you could see what I see You would see that answers come in time You will be shown all that you're waiting for.

This song is an encouragement to anyone who is struggling with their faith in God. It is a gentle reminder that God is working in other people's lives and that He is working in yours, too-just keep trusting in Him and then you will see what I see.

Obviously, I loved the album and would encourage you to get it yourself. There aren't too many CD's I will listen to from start to finish without skipping over some songs, but this is one of them. Fans of Michael W. Smith will probably enjoy this project. It is funny to imagine, but I bet if Smitty sang some of these songs, they would hit the top of the Christian charts. That is a testimony to the ability and talent of Joseph Mills.
