Out of the vast openness of Canada comes a very tight, yet versatile metal band, known as King's Ransom. This 3-song demo shows awesome potential in the realms of pop and/or power metal. Lead vocalist Dave Pearson delivers a style somewhat reminiscent of Stryper's Michael Sweet, while the bass, wailing guitars, and right-on timekeeping by drummer Joe Mellen, bring a support that results in a commercial hook-laden demo, worth checking out. The first song has a pop metal sound, giving the listeners the assurance that Jesus "lived and died cuz He loves you/ and when He comes again/ we will be where dreams come true." The second song is a rockin' ballad that states that Jesus, no matter what you've done, or whatever the situation around you is, can set you free. Indeed. Now the third song, titled "No Alibi", caters to those of us (myself included) who really appreciate straight-ahead power metal anthems, complete with just "ah little bit ah guitar shreddin'" (know what I mean dude?). For an underground custom demo, the production and the mix really showcase the band well. Given some solid direction and encouragement, expect to hear more from these Canadian rockers.
