Anytime someone says they remind people of Led Zeppelin's music, I sit up and take notice -- and judge them more critically. So, it was with curiosity that I reviewed this 9-song offering by Mr. Basso. Right away, this guy proves an intimate relationship with his guitar. Although one could say he ripped off the acoustic/esoteric side of Zeppelin, he doesn't mimic Robert Plant. Although he recorded this over six months ago, it is the perfect time to mention his project, with the Plant/Page album release and Zeppelin reunions happening.
Sonically, these songs sound both beautiful and cutting. There is clean production and good layering of sound. If given the chance, this guy could rule the classic rock airwaves. Occasional weaknesses are spotted in the vocal department as the delivery strains a little bit (not too unlike Steven Patrick). Overall, though, this is a top-notch custom recording.
