I'm always looking for a good pop album. Ya, it's a far cry from Carcass, but as I always say, "good tunes is good tunes". After Smashing Pumpkins, Starflyer 59 & Velvet Crush, Oasis might satisfy a pop addiction. But is Oasis a 1 hit wonder? I dunno. Few of the other 10 tracks grab ya by the neck & swing ya round the room & it hasn't gripped me like Velvet Crush's Symphonies..., there's a little more attitude here, but they're all strong songs. Hailing from the Mother Land, Oasis sounds heavily influenced by the first rock stars to bring this sound over--The Beatles--especially "Digsy's Diner". However, just before that "Cigarettes & Alcohol" is Sex Pistols without the bite or spikes. I'd say "Slide Away" could follow up as a 2nd single, it's got a good dreamy chorus. Good hard-edged modern rock. Not too mellow & not too punk.
