I'm still fairly puzzled about this disc. I could definitely get into the music to a point. Unfortunately, I was never drawn in the way I hoped to be. I found myself skipping tracks way too much. I think one reason is that for some reason vocalist Mike Drake doesn't get a whole lot of opportunities to showcase his talent. The style Oranger creates doesn't allow for a whole lot of range vocally. On tracks like "Flying Pretend" you can really hear the talent he has. It's not like he never gets to reach out on the CD...but I just don't think it's done as much as it could be. And frankly, I got tired of the similarity each song had vocally.
That said, this isn't by any means a poor release. The aforementioned "Flying Pretend" is an amazing song. It is definitely the softest sounding of any songs of "New Comes and Goes". The other songs are all decent, as well. However they're far from great. Without a doubt, Oranger has a lot of potential. They show there great instrumental abilities at certain points in "New Comes and Goes". Add that to the vocal promise shown, and these guys could do some great things. I'll be eager to see what they do in the future.
