    C. Charles Bowden of Merbabies infamy uses slide guitar, banjo, drums, bass, harmonica, keys, etc. to craft an aching, ghostly record. Reminders of Neil Young, 16 Horsepower, and Wilco are summoned for what can best (lazily) be called haunting spirituals. Bowden's musicianship and story telling ability is displayed prominently, but the greatest triumph of this album is its all-encompassing tone of pained joy. Creating such a duplicitous, imagery rich, and unapologetically earthy environment for the listener is no small feat. Kudos.
