This is why you never judge a book by its cover. Reading the title of the project and looking at the graphics, I was getting ready for some Southern drawl, stick of wheat in the mouth, hayseed rocking brand of hip hop. After a little further investigation, I noticed Tonex executively produced this project. I'm a little more interested. Then I noticed it was from Syntax Records. They never put out anything of the norm. Then I popped in the CD and got any image of what it is blown away. Gibraan represents back and forth from an east coast ripper to a bad boy from Jamaica. Lyrical skills at the least. I'm not privy to the "Nureaumerica" sound definition, but from my listening booth, it must mean innovation, flavor, and all that. Finally some guest appearances other than Play Dough and L.A. Symphony. Tonex, Zsa Zsa, SFK, Kalonji Imani provide inspired guest spots. It makes me want to check out their individual releases. I would try to pigeonhole this CD in a category, but I can't. Mr. Black San Diego indeed.
