Henry RedCloud Andrade is a Native American-Mexican rapper who is strongly influenced by reggae music. He was saved at a Pigeon John (L.A. Symphony) show ten years ago, and in fact does a song entitled "Pigeon John" on this disc.
This album is an amalgamation of styles - humor, braggadocio, sampling, political statements, and rhyming. In short, it's a typical rap record. At times, Andrade resembles Arrested Development, at others, Public Enemy. In other words, there is some intelligence in the lyrics here. "Koyote Gospel" is a mini-history of what Native Americans have suffered at the hands of whites. RedCloud speaks of blame lying on the government, the uncaring mainstream society, the Native American nation, but not
on God.
"When Kenpo Strikes" samples the lyrics from the 70's song "Kung Fu Fighting" (Carl Douglas) - Andrade is a black belt, and enjoys singing about one of his hobbies. "Red Clouds by Day" reminds us that every rapper needs a song to identify himself and what he's about.
In short, there's some fun here, and some lyrics that provoke thought.
