The idea is to create good strong rhythms as a foundation, then layering the different atmospheres in & out & over those rhythms. On the one hand, the rhythm doesn't seem to change much sometimes within the separate songs themselves, which makes it seem simple. Yet the idea is to create a good, interesting flow. Each song flows because you are instantly taken in by the rhythms. Each song becomes interesting because of the different atmospheres that envelop you. Like sitting in the valley between two mountains, listening, watching & feeling all the things around you...the creek, animals & wind...and being still enough that you hear your own continuous heartbeat. Pounding. One of the songs is called "Night Ash Black (Bill Laswell-'Slow Black Underground River' mix)". However, this is a very electronic album, which adds to the mysteriousness. Mick Harris has captured the seeming unnatural power of musical electronics, harnessed it, & structured it in a way we can experience / feel it. Albeit in a semi-melancholy way. This is not the more metal Scorn of old (Vae Solis days). Ellipsis is rhythms & emotion.
