The Bible talks about "dancing mightily before the Lord." Thanks to Scott Blackwell's A Myx'd Trip To A Gospel House, we can now update that to "bustin' a move for Jesus."
As a top club dj in New York, Blackwell has "remyxed" songs for ZZ Top, Debbie Gibson, Information Society, Stacey Z and Book of Love. Despite his success, he says he found not having the peace of Christ to be "excruciating," and so Blackwell recommitted his life and art to the cause of Christ. This, his second release on Myx Records/FMG, is the result.
Myx'd Trip includes nine songs, including three remixes. Unquestionably, Blackwell brings a solid and fresh approach to the contemporary Christian market. This is quality house music with a vibrant gospel message, not some cheap attempt to mimic the urban sound.
Although several lead vocalists appear, Blackwell primarily relied on the talented duo of Sandra Stephens and Allegra Parks. Programming and keyboards were handled by Blackwell and Dave Dunn, and guitar was performed by J. Hanz Ives.
Blackwell's lyric, "Take me back, dear Lord/Take me back to where I first believed" epitomize not only his return to Christ, but his musical message to the world to reconsider Jesus and take that trip back to a gospel house (the church). To Christians, his message is to "Trust and Obey" and "Keep Holdin' On."
"You can take away a man's house, his car and everything he owns, but you cannot take his song," Blackwell wrote. Amen to that, and keep pumping up the jams!
