I suppose Seventh Star is to the Christian music industry what a band like Hatebreed is to MTV. The purpose of metal, in my mind, is for it to be a sort of anger aphrodisiac; heightening negative feelings and/or releasing pent up emotions. I am not counting the few metal bands that can persuade audience appreciation with talent alone. This is not one of those bands. I do, however, consider myself a firm believer in that fact that worship can exist in several different shapes and forms. What one might find obtrusive and arrogant, might humble the heart of another.
If you are severely bent on finding an alternative to mainstream hardcore, Seventh Star could be just what you are looking for. The eleven tracks on Brood of Vipers stick right to the point, offering hardly any diversification or dynamics. They know what they are doing and are doing it just as well as anybody. While it is good to hear people angry for Jesus, cookie monster vocals were never an inspiration for me.
