This band is definitely ready for the major league. Taking the best tunes from their first release and adding some great new songs, they come up with a full-length tape called Cat Got Your Tongue. Guitarist Janna Fishback shows that she can compete with the big boys. The intro to "Saving Tree" proves that. Vocalist Michael Soucek sings in an intelligible voice - no death metal vocals here! Mark Lopez's bass playing is hot, especially at the beginning of "Mr. Psycho." Drummer Duane Mullins provides the muscle behind Slamcat's heavy sound.
"No Preps" is an extremely cool tune, which is different from the rest of the tape - thrash and lots of samples. Do I hear some industrial influence here? The title cut is a fast rocker, talking about how we should speak up for Jesus. "Tell it while you still have breath/Silence paves the road to death."
Slamcat is a band screaming to get your attention. With Cat Got Your Tongue (available on cassette and CD), they shouldn't have a problem getting it.
