Ok, this music is obviously NOT heavy. It's not extreme, brutal, thick, crunchy or any of the other descriptions you are used to seeing me use in the description of the music I like. To be completely fair with my rating system that is the sole reason this CD does not get a higher rating than a 6.
Never-the-less I must tell you I love this CD. For those of you out there who do not know what the heck this is let me explain a bit. The CD comes from the TV show Space Ghost Coast to Coast, that is aired on Cartoon Network. It's a very funny late night talk show that has Spaceghost as the host. Spaceghost just happens to be a superhero from the 1960's. The story is after his show from the 60's was canceled he let himself go, gained weight and lost his job. In the 90's he was asked to host a talk show and now he sings as well. Silly huh? Well the songs here are just as silly.
Take the song I Love Beans sung by one of Spaceghost's enemies Brak. In this song the nit-witted Brak goes into serious detail about the various beans he enjoys eating and the mind boggling coincidence that no one wants to be around after he eats his beans. "Probably cause I'm cutting muffins" he admits.
These songs are set to a variety of musical styles. From quirky cartoon type of music, to vegas styled lounge music. Everything in between is toyed with, even a rap style of song with all vocal chord created sounds.
So maybe this CD doesn't exactly belong in Dead, and maybe you will never find yourself slamming in a pit to any of these songs, but trust me, you will laugh. Granted the tracks don't ever go over one and a half minutes, but hey there are 38 tracks total. By the time you reach track 38 you are certainly ready for it. Oh and they have 2 of the songs in Karaoke version, and have included the lyrics so you can sing along with Spaceghost, Zorak, and Brak.
