Student Rick is a new addition to Victory Records. They are from South Bend, IN and are currently on tour.
This is definitely an album that will appeal to fans of Midtown, No Motiv, and Saves the Day. Some songs like "Monday Morning" are very much in the formerly mentioned bands style, while others such as "Meet You Halfway There" take a different route. The majority of the songs sound very much like Midtown (such as "Yesterday"), while a few have more of an original flare.
As a simple rule, those songs that are slower in style (possibly slow dance material?) are well written and have more of a foundation of originality. The other "normal" tempo songs all sound like Midtown. There are many more additional instruments than your standards such as piano (although some may argue this is now standard), cello, violin, etc. The album was recorded at the Blasting Room and engineered by Bill Stevenson.
Between tracks it sounds like you're listening to a vinyl, but don't let that fool you...it's a CD. In conclusion, Student Rick is poppy-core and "Soundtrack for a Generation" fails at being an album with creativity.
