How do you follow up a debut album (that's) dripping with hooks 'n' hits? Well, if you wanna play it safe, you use the same recipe in your song writing. If you're real brave, you'll venture out and try something new. Well, we're dealing with The Brave, so guess which road these guys took?
While not abandoning the theory of, "People like good songs," The Brave have added a lot of muscle and attitude that was missing on their debut offering.
This is an album you'll want to crank in your car, at the beach, or in the park this summer (There's nothing like a bad 'n' bold guitar comin' at you like a slap in the face!). It's funny to see the players of Generation X usher in the hard rock revival that tips the cymbal to Led Zeppelin's musical assault. Like their influential predecessor, they can slow it down with class for a song like "Trust."
Left almost alone by Pakaderm producers John and Dino Elefante, there's still some similarities that pop up. Ironically enough, "Dirty Water" features a vocal delivery with just a touch of grit a la Tim Bushong of LoveWar. The Brave will still hold on to their melodic hard rock fan base, but will also score big with headbangers. Songs like "Down By The River" rock like an earthquake. The music rages with mile-deep grooves, and the lyrics are as bold as the first album. For a band that had to follow up a successful debut album and find a new singer, The Brave has come out on top.
