I am all for the retro rock phase that music is now going through. Bands like Jet, The Strokes, and even Squad 5 0 did and did it well. In the case of The Cherry Valence however, they just sound like one of the bands in the 70's and 80's that never made it.

Back when Bad Company and KISS were ruling airwaves, there were bands who despite a few singles never did anything. That is where TCV3 fits in. There maybe one decent track on this record but overall it is dollar bin material. The vocalist tries to be the strong 70's and 80's style front man like Paul Rodgers and others in that vein. He misses the mark however because his voice sounds strained and out of his own range.

The band itself is just playing generic classic rock and does it well, but it doesn't make the record that exciting. Overall the band is going for that 70's southern anthem rock mixed with the decadence of 80's hair metal and it just comes up way short of the mark. Lyrically it is predictable and even for this genre very poorly written. They tackle all the cliches like life on the road, drinking, women and struggling to just make it as a rocking band.

Fans of bands like Cinderella, Lynyrd Skynyrd and 38 Special may find some enjoyment in this release. They do capture the general feel and sound of those kinds of bands however comes nowhere close to the real thing.
