I've been hearing about these guys for the past few months, so I was happy that I finally got a chance to spin this disc from Portland's latest heart-stoppers. Catchy punk rock riffs, spooky organ runs, and good old fashioned horror / glam / surf rock, with easy comparisons to the New York Dolls and the Dead Boys, I think the strongest comparison would have to be to the Cramps.

Lyrically, there's a very obvious influence by the Misfits, with lyrics regarding being crucified with Christ, and realizing the need for God in your life, intermingled with tales of zombies, vampires in love, and killer vegetables. ("Man-eating lettuce coming for you / broccoli and cauliflower, what will you do...A side of beef and a milkshake too / don't you know that Jesus died for you" from "Vegecide"). Some of my favorites are "Go-Go to the Graveyard," "Vampires in Love," and "Dead Indeed." I've heard that these guys have a great live show, and it really comes through on this album.

Art for the Ears 2000Reviewed by Marco PovervestHere's a spooky punkband from the Tooth & Nail roster. Imagine the band dressed in black suits with ties playing songs like Go-Go To The Graveyard, Vampires In Love and Last Nail In Your Coffin. Their singer is Shaun Coffin....And the music....Creepy! This is definitely an original band from Tooth & Nail again. Their punk rock sound is basically a mix-up of good old garage punk and rock & roll.…The Phantom Tollbooth 2000Reviewed by Michial FarmerImagine the sound you'd get if Tim Burton's composer Danny Elfman drafted songs for seminal punk band The Ramones to play at beach parties. Tooth & Nail offers a musical concoction in this vein with The Death and Life of..., the first release from Oregon's The Deadlines. The band dubs their blend "horror punk," and does a pretty good job of keeping the listener's attention with it, at least for a…Opus 2000Reviewed by Nolan ShigleyWhen I read the bio of The Deadlines on the Cornerstone web site, they seemed like just another in the endless line of punk bands ready to stake their claim at the festival. Garage punk was the best description given by the bio, which really didn't trip my trigger. Luckily, I overheard a conversation about the band where I heard three words that rung in my ears like church bells: "Blood Spitting…Dead Zine 2000Reviewed by D_ListerCan a punk band be good? Well yes if they are original. The Deadlines have found that niche better than any kind of punk rock band I've seen in quite literally Y-E-A-R-S! Anyone who reads my material knows I'm no fan of punk music, but I gotta say I love this CD. This music is simply fun to listen to. They are able to take the sounds of TRUE old school punk music (IE The Cramps and The Misfits)…
