San Diego legends Rocket From The Crypt return to the indies with "Group Sounds", their first release on Vagrant Records.

Many longtime Rocket From The Crypt fans were disappointed with the group's last release, RFTC. Maybe it was because of the very prevalent vocal mix, or maybe because they wrote some songs that were longer than 3 minutes. Either way the fan reaction was a bit lackluster. Well with Group Sounds, longtime Rocket fans can rejoice once again as they have returned to their roots in a sense. Most of the songs are around 2-3 minutes long and very upbeat, and the production is raw (with Speedo's vocals back in the background).

At first listen, the album comes across as another All Systems Go CD (ASG 1 and 2 were singles compilations) but upon further listening it becomes apparent that the songs on Group Sounds are much better. The speed and feel of the songs are similar, but more emphasis has been put on the songwriting/arranging that help to make it feel like a solid album.

Group Sounds comes to a perfect close with the 5 1/2 minute epic "Ghost Shark" which features piano from Memphis, TN legend Jim Dickinson. With this being their first release on Vagrant, Rocket From The Crypt proves that they can still rock out as they have in the past and are more than happy to be back in the indie ranks.
