The Kite-Eating Tree hails from Silverlake, California. Their debut album 'Method: Fail, Repeat' is set to release in late March on Suburban Home Records.
The Kite-Eating Tree is best described as post-punk or post-hardcore. Bands that come to mind when listening to this album are Rival Schools or Drive Like Jehu. Musically on some tracks, they mirror Fugazi or Queens of the Stone Age.
Unfortunately, the album gets bogged down at times with bland vocals. The vocals aren't bad, but he stays well within a comfort zone while singing and it shows. One other problem I have with 'Method: Fail, Repeat', is the lack of hooks to pull the listener in.
For the most part the lyrics are intelligible and sometimes very personal. For instance, 'Save Your Stares For Strays' is about vocalist Mike Hunter's experiences while pushing his wife's wheelchair. The KET flexes its political muscle on 'Hollywood Hates You'. It is refreshing to hear an album not saturated with break-up songs and memories of bad childhoods.
