Trial by Fire
[demo]
Reviewed by John Wilson
With this 1990 ten-song private release, Trial By Fire signifies that there is talent and sound doctrine in Babylon, New York. Musically, TBF sounds somewhat like Heart, generally centering around the power-pop vein. Actual song performance deserves a nod for collaboration--and even for complexity on occasions. Initially it appears that rock styling is rather new to vocalist Colette Hansen (undeniable Ann Wilson influence), but as the project progresses, the match works more and more effectively--kinda grows on you. Extraordinary cuts are "Sandcastle", a soft ballad about childhood, and a rough, bluesy number called "Eternity". TBF shows promise and musicality, with some satisfactory production. Available through Spring Arbor or from the band. For info, write: 250 Pioxi St, Coplague NY 11726.
