This CD starts up shredding with some thundering double bass and an intensity level that just makes you know deep down you're going to enjoy this CD. This metalcore band is trying something new...metalcore with little chaos. It's refreshing to get some serious extreme metal mixed in for a change.
Uplifted is a three piece band and each member of the band knows his duties. All instruments are heard well on this recording. The vocals are performed pretty much as a rough scream, not hardcore styled at all, but more reminding me of older thrash styles, or if it is hardcore styled, it's along the lines of Six Feet Deep or a rougher NIV (from No Compromise.) It's really nice.
You get six songs on this one, and the only song that really doesn't do it for me is track three titled "Receive." This is a fine song for what it is, but I tend to lose focus on the music as it gets a bit repetitious. It starts with a very bass driven slower tempo, that picks up and becomes a pretty straight forward hardcore song.
"Obstruct" is probably my favorite song on this album, it simply reigns supreme here. Starting off with a standard hardcore riff, and busting into some speeding drum parts that are really freaking nice, then the double bass thunder starts and the song really takes off.
The lyrics of this album are certainly right on for God, check this part out from "Antagonist:"
liar perversion hatred is what you are
I refuse to follow your destructive path
the path that leads to sin and death eternally
one day you will bow before the feet of God
one day you will bow down at the feet of my God
