Fans of the premier Christian metal magazine can now get ready for action in front of their VCR. Heaven's Metal is also now a series of periodic video magazines, and the latest installment is Volume 3.
This volume begins with the opening moments of Mortification's set at the Blackstump festival, which is also on the band's Live Planetarium video and LP. This footage is high quality, with plenty of great camera angles, good sound mix, and an added intensity from the crowd. The band rips into "Grind Planetarium" and then viewers are taken on a tour of vocalist/bassist Steve Rowe's Australian home, as well as concept clips for "Scrolls of the Megilloth" and "Grind Planetarium," both excellently produced.
Tourniquet is up next with some stage-diving footage from their Cornerstone appearance. The video then shows some drumming by Ted Kirkpatrick and introduces new lead vocalist Luke Easter. Their 1991 video "Ark of Suffering," which deals with animal abuse and was turned down by MTV (for being "too intense") and subsequently released in a number of Christian video outlets, is also included.
Industrial bands Under Midnight and Mortal are featured next, with interviews, the video of "Cybervision," and an explanation of each band's ministry at the time.
A last-night-performance interview with Christian metal pioneers Bloodgood is also included, along with some simple camera footage of their last performance of "Hey You" in Germany.
Kudos to Doug Van Pelt and all at Heaven's Metal for making this dream of Christian metal-heads a reality.
