i'm not a fan of compilations most of the time, and this one seems especially dull to me. it's not that it's really bad, just most of the bands don't appeal to me. it's mainly that modern pop-punk/emo hybrid, and some indie rock. the only songs i really like are the ones from the lawrence arms (which is also on their split with shady view terrace), the honor system (which appears in a different version on their new ep), and the alkaline trio. the singer of amazing transparent man sounds strangely like cinder block of tilt, though it's a guy. it's hard to believe asian man would include a band as dumb as home grown on one of their releases, but it's true. it's sad to see the idea of using people for sex perpetuated in the punk scene, and i just have to wonder how it slipped by a label that usually has nothing to do with that sort of thing. anyway, despite the musical complaints, the proceeds of this compilation go to the cause of helping a family pay medical bills run up by trying to treat a terminal disease that the youngest son has. that seems like a pretty good cause, so be sure to buy this cd if you like bands like saves the day, tuesday, hot water music, and the full effect.
