The best thing out of Germany since the Scorpions, Waterdown is comprised of members from several demised metal and hardcore bands. This is their second full length on Victory, their first being "Never Kill The Boy On The First Date."
I was a huge fan of Waterdown's first Victory release, so when I got this in the mail I was very excited. The sound of Waterdown has progressed since last time, though still following along in their melodic sing-song hardcore roots. There are more vocal harmonies and more complex song structures. While there are plenty of fast paced rock songs, there are more slow introspective songs than their previous release. Song writing like the unconventional vocal beginning to "Nails All Broken Short," and its main chorus are haunting and refuse to escape your mind. I'd list my favorite songs, but it would be easier to say I like them all. These guys are stretching themselves with each song, doing new and fresh things. Everything is there for "The Files You Have On Me," strong vocals, lyrics, a great recording and their own unique approach to an otherwise bloated and stagnant genre.
