First the sleeve... Wood, with the letters of the WHITE CROSS logo carved into it... and then four nails driven into the wood. A white cross drawn, and partially covered with a bloodstain... Not bad at all!! On the back cover side, a photo of WHITE CROSS... Ugh, how ugly they are! They really do not have the look... STOP!! Beware of appearances! The clothes do not always make the hard rocker!! From the first chords of "Who Will You Follow", you will see that if they do not have the look, they have the sound!! It is heavy that can only win you over! No, this is not Steven Pearcy's new band!! It is true, Scott Wenzel's vocals strangely resemble those of Ratt's singer, but believe it or not, Scott Wenzel has never listened to Ratt. But what strikes one most is WHITE CROSS's fretboard-penguin (no butterfingers, he!). Whoah, the guy! No wonder he is considered the best WM guitarist!! Rex Carroll (that is his name) has manifestly been influenced by classical music (9 years of violin study, 10 years of guitar study, and 5 years of piano). His influences come through in numerous leads. Just listen to "Lookin' For A Reason", or "Signs Of The End"... It is grandiose!! Some have even claimed that Rex Carroll could well end up dethroning Yngwie,...! It is true, Rex Carroll has very rich, very melodic playing. And he does not deny himself the pleasure of demonstrating it to us in all humility: "I do not consider myself an extremely talented guitarist", he states... And yet, just take this guitar solo that makes up the track "Nagasake". And wham!! Right in the teeth! That is the lesson, oh yes: the lesson of Rex Carroll!! The vocals too are up to standard. The bass/drums duel, on the other hand, is not up to the standard of the vocal and guitar talents. Let us say that the drummer has simple (at times simplistic) playing... A pity, because a drummer of the class of Robert Sweet would have allowed WHITE CROSS to go much further still. Moreover, WHITE CROSS would have deserved a far better production... Let us wager that the band's next album will fill these gaps! It remains no less true that this album stays a must for all fans of Ratt, Motley and Malmsteen!!

Dead Zine 2002Reviewed by NecRoSarXHey, don't throw this baby out with the bath water. Ratt was one of my favorite metal bands back in high school, and the uncanny resemblance Whitecross has with said band is still the reason why I have the older Whitecross CDs in my collection. This was another evangelical-based metal band from the mid-1980s, the era when groups wore the tag Christian Metal like a badge. Though Whitecross does…Heaven's Metal #13Reviewed by Doug Van PeltWhitecross's album has been released by Pure Metal and is selling like mad all over the US! It cooks! It has to be the best production for any Pure Metal release yet. The mix makes the band sound even more like Ratt. Someone ought to give a copy to Stephen Pearcy. They took a lot of time in the studio and I think the result has paid off all their efforts. I think the world may be in for a…
