A phone call to a small mainstream indie led me to discover this band. While explaining why we aren't going to review one of their bands, I was told, "We've got a Christian metal band!" Then I was sent this CD of a powerful melodic metal band that talks about "the anvil" that "stands alone" in their songs. Besides their stand for God's Word, how can you knock a band that expresses regret for voting for Bill Clinton (in "Lies In The Balance"): "This time you fooled me/ You played all the tricks/ Now it's no wonder why they called you slick . . . Changing your hair for the crowd I was in/ 'Say whatever they want, man, just as long as you win.'"
Musically, the band rocks very hard, while still maintaining commercial hooks, and vocalist Dale Anthony sings with the conviction and sound of Dio.
Like Veni Domine, Zaxas is one great power metal band that begs being checked out by you -- the dormant classic metal fan. I guarantee you'll freak out.
