Frank's Enemy began in Miami as Julio Rey's one-man project while his previous band, The Lead, was reaching its final stages, then expanded into a group with bassist Marc Golob and drummer Alex A. The 1992 releases combined thrash with hardcore, machine-driven double bass, and rough recording, while Atrocities favored frantic, out-of-control riffing over polish. By the self-titled 1994 release, Rey, Golob, and Alex A. were playing tight, aggressive death metal with extended jams and extremely low growled vocals. Neoblasphemies widened the range further, placing a quiet acoustic song and a funky closing track around a fast, blurry grindcore center. Illumination presented the most controlled version of the approach, with blast beats, heavy grooves, processed vocals, and brief ska, rapcore, and techno passages.
Alex A. left in 1997, and Marc Golob followed in 1998, after which Rey continued Frank's Enemy largely by himself. The project moved beyond the period documented by the early releases: Enraged appeared in 2002, and Rey later assembled the four-song 21st Enemy EP in March 2020 before issuing an expanded CD version in February 2022. He released Abnormalized in 2021 and The Terrible Days in June 2022. Postmerican followed in February 2025.
