OK so I went CRAZY over Aleixa's newest album Disfigured in the last review. This CD is their previous CD, and you know how it is, once you discover a new band you go and find their older stuff. Well if you were like me and really got into Disfigured and are considering finding more stuff from Aleixa, my suggestion is consider it very deeply.
I should be so rough on this album. The music itself is more industrial at times. This alone would have been good but if you recall in the last review I said I am NOT a big fan of female vocals. I really liked Disfigured because of the aggressiveness of the girls' vocals. With this album the vocals are nowhere near as harsh, and for me that really takes away from their music. The song I Could Murder is pretty awesome however, and a pretty strong song despite the somewhat tame vocals. I love the kids chanting "M-U-R-D-E-R-K-I-L-L" that's just scary!
This is definitely Aleixa, but it's also easy to hear that it's early Aleixa, that their music writing skills were only improved upon with their second album. This is not a bad album in any fashion, indeed the music is at times better, I just wish they'd have roughed up the vocals a bit.
5/10

The Lighthouse October 1996Reviewed by Bev WhiteMy ladies they all fear But I am bold I don't ask why I'm going higher without you (from "Five") Aleixa (pronounced ah-lee-kah) has produced an album that delves into emotional aspects of earthly reality, and explores the honesty of both faith's periodic dryness and despair and its ensuant firm, powerful growth-things beyond the reach of the trite. Unclaimed by industrial, yet too intensely…
7ball #7Reviewed by Chris WellMuch like reciting the book of Ecclesiastes (it's in the Bible) to a bitter soundtrack of clanging trashcans and the sweet voice of an angel, the Aleixa debut Honey Lake is a gorgeously dark pop masterpiece, mixing hard edged, industrial dance rock with hauntingly beautiful female vocals. Like Abba on acid. Some will be disturbed (even frightened) by the dark Scriptural imagery--but it's darn…
Dead Zine 1996Reviewed by GrindboyOk, I never write reviews to refute somebody else's review -- but D is off his rocker on this one! Honeylake is the album that first got me hooked on Aleixa, and it's as good today as it was back then. I personally see very few significant differences between this and Disfigured. This one is probably just a touch more industrial, with a couple fun samples throwing the happiness askew just enough.…Similar sounding releases
