Self described as a “tribute to our European roots,” Blonde Redhead have released Mélodie Citronique. Three of the songs are originally from this summer's Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons. “En Particulier” (In Particular) is in French and “Odiata Per Le Sue Virtú” (Hated Because of Great Qualities) is in Italian. Both are sung by Kazu whose voice, quite haunting and mysterious, is even more so when she sings in French and Italian.

The song “Chi É E Non É” is a new one and it's the first one that they've written in Italian. A cover of Serge Gainsbourg's “Slogan” (previously available on the 7” Slogan/Limited Conversation) is sung in French. Finishing off this multi-lingual mix of French, Italian and a cover, is “Four Damaged Lemons,” a remix of “For The Damaged” from Melody..., by Matt Elliot of Third Eye Foundation. The standout track is “Chi É E Non É.” In the delicate tradition of Melody..., this song starts with a simple rhythmic guitar line paired with an acoustic guitar. Behind this Amedeo's voice--at times doubled, adds elements of fragileness and urgency.

With their last three albums and now this EP, Blonde Redhead have shown they are a band willing to grow and explore musically. This enthusiasm, when had by artists with such creativity and talent, proves to give them and their audience new found love and admiration with each live show or listen.
